Last Friday was a very pleasant early Autumn evening in Sydney. Even though thunder storms were looming from the Blue Mountains to the west, there was only a tiny hint of cold in the air and I was looking forward to riding my motorcycle into the city. My name is David and Lyn Hughes was kind enough to invite me to the launch of her new book Flock. The function was held last Friday evening at the premises of Gleebooks in Glebe. The shop has a wonderful ambience and the upstairs space is a great spot for events. There was a good crowd in attendance and everyone enjoyed the nice finger food, wine and beer. The walls were covered with a huge array of fascinating books but everyone was there to hear about Flock. Sue Brockhoff, Head of Fiction at HarperCollins was the first to speak about Lyn and her book and then introduced Professor Amanda Lawson to officially launch Flock. Amanda had the audience enthralled and amused as she went into a bit of the story behind the book. Flock was then declared launched. Lyn responded, thanking Professor Lawson and giving the audience some author’s insight into the writing of Flock. With the speeches over it was back to a buzz of lively discussions amongst the guests along with more food and wine. Lyn must have literally had writer’s cramp by the end of the evening after signing so many copies of her book for the eager crowd. It was a very successful launch and a fun social occasion as you can see from the photos I took… and I got home before the storms hit 🙂 Click on images to see larger.
